Digital Volume Control Circuit Diagram

This circuit could be used for replacing your manual volume control in a stereo amplifier. In this circuit, push-to-on switch SW1 controls the forward (volume increase) operation of both channels while a similar switch SW2 controls reverse (volume decrease) operation of both channels. A readily available IC from Dallas semiconductor, DS1669 is used here.

J1 = RCA Audio Input Socket

C1 = 0.1uF-16V Ceramic Disc Capacitor
C2 = 0.1uF-16V Ceramic Disc Capacitor

IC1 = DS1669 (is available from Dallas SCo.
SW1 = Momentary Push Button Switch

Digital Volume Controller Circuit

The circuit shown here is based on the switching action of transistors.
Volume of a stereo deck can be controlled with the help of a potentiometer which changes the resistance between the output of the preamplifier and input of the amplifier. This can be done with the help of decade counter, IC.4017 and some transistors.

The input is applied at collectors and the output is taken from emitters of the transistors. Depending upon the output of IC 4017, the corresponding transistor gets saturated. Output from the emitters is taken through a coupling ” capacitor to block the DC components. When pin 4 of IC 4017 ° goes high, the corresponding transistor (T2) gets saturated and the input signal is directly fed to the output through the collector resistance-:

To start with, press switch S1. The timer IC (IC 555) will start generating pulses at equal interval of time which are fed to IC2. Depending on the output of IC 4017 the transistor is selected. When desired volume reached; release the switch.

To reset the counter, switch S2 is brought to position A. The time period of the output pulses · can be set, using the formula Td: 0.693 (R1 +2VR1 + 2R32) C1 seconds.

Stepped Volume Control

Louder music, sirens or speech in response to higher ambient noise levels? This simple circuit has the answer, and it may enable your robot to be at least as noisy or loud-mouthed as the others in an arena. The circuit consists basically of a microphone, a level detector, a 4-state counter and four analogue switches connected to a resistive ladder network. Looking at the circuit diagram, the signal from electret microphone M1 is amplified by T1 whose collector voltage appears across a potentiometer. M1 gets its bias voltage through R4. Depending on the setting of P1, the 4040 counter will get a clock pulse when a certain noise level (threshold) is exceeded.

The counter state determines the configuration of the four electronic switches inside the 4066 and so the series resistance effectively seen in the audio signal line. The circuit should be powered from a 9-V regulated supply or a battery and will consume a few milliamps only. Switch S1 allows the counter to be reset, switching all 4066 switches to off, i.e., the highest attenuation will exist in the audio path as in that case none of the 1-kΩ resistors are shorted out. To calibrate the circuit, disconnect the 4040 clock input (pin 10) from the wiper of P1, and temporarily ground it through a 100 kΩ resistor. Now pulse the clock input by briefly connecting it to the +9 V line; you will see the counter outputs change state and with them, the bilateral switches in the 4066.

How to create a simple adjusting volume for amplifier

This circuit usually used for amplifier that do not require additional device in one box amplifiers. Enhancements such as Equalizer , Tone Control , Mixer , etc.  Only by requiring a potentiometer mono or stereo if stereo power amplifier , and few  cables you can make this circuit easily.

 First connect the cable from the power amplifier input to pin2 potentio , and connect ground to pin 1 , then connect the output of tuner or other media player to pin 3. Try turning to the right then the sound will be high , and if played left back then the sound will below.
